Former State Representative Victoria Sullivan outlines her priorities as NH Senate District 18 candidate.
“I have been working in the recovery community with those who are or have been homeless and understand the complexities of the crises we are facing here in NH. When I served in the NH House of Representatives, I sponsored bills that focused on expanding recovery support. I am even more passionate about that work now.
NH does a lot of things right when it comes to recovery, however we lack the support for mental health care which is an integral component in healing and prevention. This care is especially crucial for our youth and the resources are just not there.
I have also been a strong voice in regard to the need to change our bail reform law, something that has had a significant impact on our state, but disproportionately so for Manchester.”
Education has always been a priority for Victoria and she will continue to be a voice for families and children across New Hampshire.
Victoria served on the House Education Committee for four years, sponsored several education bills including the play-based education law that has become a template for education across the nation.
While in the legislature Victoria sponsored HB1739 which became law in 2018 and protects our young women from the barbaric practice of FGM for which she received recognition from the AHA Foundation.
After leaving the NH House Victoria continued her work in early childhood education. She worked for UNH through the Pre-School Development Grant focusing on family voice in education and opportunities for our youngest learners.
She is currently the chair of Freedom Movement New Hampshire, a non-profit faith-based, sober home in Manchester; the Director of Freedom Staffing which is a non-profit agency working to remove barriers to employment for those that have been out of the workforce for varies reasons, and sits on the Oversight Commission of Children’s Services.
Mrs. Sullivan has previously served as PTA President for her children’s public elementary school, on the NH PTA executive board, the Manchester Heritage Commission, and various volunteer positions including children’s theater director and coaching several city sports.
Victoria and her husband Buddy just celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary. They reside in Manchester’s South End with their two sons, 2 cats (Mrs. Norris and Professor McGonagall) and their dog Lucky.
